New school district treasurer Joyce Dupont was welcomed to her first board meeting Monday night by Todd Warner, new president of the Clyde-Green Springs Exemtped Village Board of Education.
Dupont, who comes to the district from South Central High School, will officially take over her duties on Feb. 6.
“We are happy to have Joyce on board,” stated Warner. “She comes to us in high regard,” he added.
“I look forward to working with and meeting everyone,” Dupont said. “I have an open door policy and encourage people to stop in and see me.”
The board then heard from building administrators on reports on the first semester. Clyde High School Principal Joe Webb gave a positive report on the high school.
“Our students and staff did a great job during our first semester,” he said.
Webb reported that 13 students from CHS were selected to participate in the 2012 OMEO District II Honors Band, Choir and Orchestra Festival.
CHS students Sara Smith played the cello in the orchestra, while Madison Aldrich played the flute in the district band, he reported.
“Out of 22 participating schools in the Honors Choir, Clyde had the most students accepted into the choir from any one school with 11,” said Webb. Students Megan Shell, Clara Sewell, Michaela McCowan, Leah Marty, Savannah Green, Rachel Peters, Josh Marty, Mathew Gerber, Jesse Gonzalez, Zach Dorr and Ryan Sherman were the students accepted to sing.
Principal Jon Detwiler then gave an update on McPherson Middle School and reported that two of the building’s teachers had received the Ohio Lottery’s Teacher of the Month Honor. “Ryan Carter won the award in December, and most recently Bill Young won the honor for January,”said Detwiler.
“I also believe Heidi Marshall won the Lottery’s Student of the Month Honor as well,” stated Superintendent Gregg Elchert.
Clyde Elementary Principal Peggy Stickney also reported about a new intervention program her teachers have created to aid students.
“My building’s teachers recognized a need and have developed a program that puts students of the same learning curve together two or three days a week to help in the learning process,” said Stickney.
On Monday, the board also took action on several personnel issues before heading into executive session on a personnel matter. No action was taken after that session with the next board meeting to be held on Monday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
